Working with Austrian clients from India

Web Development Company for Austria Businesses

German-language builds, GDPR taken seriously, Austrian standards. I am a full-stack developer in Udaipur, India, working directly with Austrian businesses — 10+ years, 750+ projects, and no account manager between you and the person writing the code.

Web development and software for Austrian businesses

Austria is a small market with high standards, and it is unforgiving of the two things offshore suppliers usually get wrong: language and data protection. A site for an Austrian business needs German that reads as Austrian German rather than translated English, and it needs a privacy position that survives scrutiny from a regulator that has been more assertive than most of its European counterparts. Get either wrong and the quality of the code stops mattering.

I work with Austrian clients on that basis. The technical build, the architecture, the performance work and the ongoing development come from me; German copy is written or reviewed by a native speaker rather than run through a translation service, and the analytics and consent layer is built to a standard that reflects the Datenschutzbehörde's actual rulings rather than what a plugin's default settings assume is acceptable.

The time zone is comfortable. India runs three and a half to four and a half hours ahead of Vienna depending on the season, so my afternoon and evening cover your full working day. A question at nine in the morning gets an answer at nine in the morning.

What the Austria market actually rewards

Austrian buyers behave differently from their German neighbours in ways that matter commercially. The market is smaller, relationships carry more weight, and decisions are made more slowly and then held to more firmly. A supplier who is thorough at the quotation stage is at a real advantage, because a detailed written scope signals seriousness in a way that a fast turnaround does not.

Data protection is the defining constraint. Austria's Datenschutzbehörde issued some of Europe's most consequential rulings on transfers of analytics data to the United States, and the practical consequence for a website is that dropping in standard Google Analytics and a consent banner is not a defensible position for an Austrian business. There are workable answers — self-hosted or EU-hosted analytics, server-side collection, genuinely consent-gated tags — and they need to be chosen deliberately at build time.

The other constant is quality expectation relative to price. Austrian clients are not looking for the cheapest option and are frequently suspicious of it. What they respond to is precision: an accurate estimate, work that matches the specification, documentation, and a supplier who says clearly when something in the brief is a bad idea. That suits how I work, and it is the reason Austrian projects tend to be the most detailed at the scoping stage and the least eventful afterwards.

Compliance

The rules an Austrian site has to live inside

Built in from the start, because every one of these is far cheaper to design for than to retrofit after someone asks.

GDPR and the Austrian DSG
Consent captured before any non-essential cookie or tag fires, reject as prominent as accept, lawful basis recorded, data minimised at the form, and a documented processor list and retention schedule that your privacy notice can accurately describe.
The DSB analytics rulings
Austria's regulator found standard Google Analytics implementations unlawful because of personal data transfers to the United States. I build with EU-hosted or self-hosted analytics, or server-side collection with identifiers stripped, so measurement does not rest on a position that has already been ruled against.
EU hosting and data residency
Deployment to EU regions with backups in the EEA. Sub-processors are listed with their locations so your Verzeichnis von Verarbeitungstätigkeiten is accurate rather than aspirational.
Accessibility — EN 301 549 and WCAG 2.1 AA
The European Accessibility Act extends obligations to a wide range of private-sector digital services. Builds target WCAG 2.1 AA in the markup, which is the practical route to EN 301 549 conformance.

I build the technical side to these standards. Legal wording — your privacy notice, terms and any regulated disclosures — should still be reviewed by someone qualified in Austria.

Why this works

What Austrian clients get from working with me directly

Not a generic pitch — these are the six things that decide whether an offshore arrangement works for a business in Austria.

German that reads as Austrian German

Copy written or reviewed by a native speaker, with Austrian usage rather than a German or Swiss register, and the formal Sie form unless your brand deliberately does otherwise. Not machine translation with a proofread on top.

GDPR and DSG built into the architecture

Consent before any non-essential tag fires, an equally prominent reject option, data minimisation, documented processors and retention. The Austrian DSB's analytics rulings are treated as a design constraint, not a footnote.

EU hosting and EU-only data paths

Deployment to Frankfurt, Vienna or another EU region, backups in the EEA, and analytics that does not export personal data to the United States. Where a US processor is genuinely necessary, you are told and it is documented.

Your whole working day is covered

India is three and a half to four and a half hours ahead of CET. My afternoon and evening span your full day, so there is no waiting and no batching of questions into a single call.

Precise scope, fixed price in euros

A detailed written specification with fixed pricing and milestone dates before work begins. Austrian clients tend to want the detail up front, and I would rather write it than argue about it later.

Full code ownership and clean handover

Your repository, your hosting account, documented architecture and a handover session. If the relationship ends, an Austrian agency can pick the project up without a discovery phase.

The honest bit

The question every Austrian client asks

Can an offshore developer really handle German-language work?

Not alone, and I do not claim to. I build the site and the systems; the German is written or reviewed by a native speaker, and I structure the project so language is a first-class part of it rather than a final translation pass — separate content per language, correct hreflang, an admin your team can edit German in directly, and layouts tested against German compound words that are considerably longer than their English equivalents. If your project is primarily a copywriting exercise rather than a build, I will tell you that a local agency is the better choice.

Working hours in Austria time

India is three and a half to four and a half hours ahead of Vienna, so my afternoon and evening cover your entire working day. Questions asked at 9:00 am CET are answered immediately.

FAQ

Working with an Austrian client — common questions

The things businesses in Austria ask before starting.

Can you build a German-language website for an Austrian company?
Yes. I handle the build, the architecture and the front end; German copy is written or reviewed by a native speaker rather than machine-translated, in Austrian usage rather than a German or Swiss register. Practically, that also means designing for German text — compound words run considerably longer than English, and layouts that were only tested in English break in ways that look careless.
How do you handle GDPR and the Austrian data protection rules?
As a build constraint rather than a banner. No non-essential tag fires before consent, reject is as prominent as accept, forms collect only what is needed, and every processor is documented with its location so your record of processing activities is accurate. Given the DSB's rulings on analytics transfers to the United States, I use EU-hosted or self-hosted analytics rather than a standard Google Analytics installation.
Can the website be hosted in the EU?
Yes, and for most Austrian clients it should be. Deployment goes to an EU region — Frankfurt or Vienna typically — with backups kept in the EEA, and I list every sub-processor so you can see where data actually goes. The hosting account is in your name, so residency stays under your control.
What is the time difference between India and Austria?
India is four and a half hours ahead of CET in winter and three and a half ahead of CEST in summer. My afternoon and evening cover your entire working day, so a question asked first thing in Vienna is answered first thing in Vienna. There is no overnight gap to plan around.
Is Google Analytics allowed on an Austrian website?
The Datenschutzbehörde has ruled that standard implementations transferring personal data to the United States are not compliant, and while the legal position has continued to move, building on it is an avoidable risk. I set up EU-hosted analytics such as Matomo or Plausible, or server-side collection with identifiers stripped before they leave the EU. You still get the measurement; you are not relying on a position that has already been ruled against once.
Do you work with Austrian agencies as a development partner?
Frequently, and it is often the best arrangement. The agency keeps the client relationship, the strategy and the German copywriting; I take the build. Work goes into your repository under your process, with your standards for review and deployment. White-label is fine and I do not approach your clients directly.
